30 wonderful years, two fantastic kids and alot of work later, we've decided it's time to take an extended break and travel. There will be three phases to the time off - skiing in the Rockies, Europe by campervan and downtime on the farm. This blog is intended to keep family and friends informed as to our whereabouts in case they want to travel vicariously with us. Hasta la vista!

We're finding it hard to tear ourselves away from Red - definitely Barb's favourite ski hill - with Whitewater a close second. Next to Peter, powder has become her new best friend. And it just keeps coming. We're staying at a great place on the hill - Ramshead Inn - but we have to move on tomorrow as they are fully booked for the weekend. So we'll ski Red again tomorrow and stay in town and then decide where we'll head on Friday. The plan is to head south to Sun Valley, Idaho stopping at a little place with lots of snow called Lookout Pass but we'll see which way the wind blows.

So the kids have had enough R&R and felt the need to get back to school. That led us to check out Nelson, Whitewater and now Rams Head Inn at the base of Red Mountain. There has been lots of snow around here, and with the groomers calling in sick, Barb learned to ski Pow at Whitewater, and will be leading Peter into the dark side of every resort from here on. As if to confirm that we are living right, Hertz had a Hybrid Toyota Highlander at the airport so we traded in our Jeep Cherokee and are now using a smaller fraction of the earth's resources. Pheewww.

Peter, Erich, Emma, Barb and Graham on the first day at Silver Star - a bluebird day. Awesome skiing and boarding, great fun - couldn't be better! The next day was winter but freshies in the afternoon - what a way to start the holiday. Tomorrow the kids head home and PT and I head to Nelson and ski Whitewater on Monday.

Pow hounds - read it and weep - an email excerpt from Big Fish - "had an amazing day, been snowing all the time here, doing waist deep stuff. Too much snow for the bowls to be safe, but the trees are amazing." Wow, too bad they're not having fun.

The radventure begins.... for half of us at least.
Peter and Graham are on their way to powder country B.C. for the annual cat skiing trip. I'm hoping to get updates once they've had a chance to eat some snow and will post anything that can't be censored.
Emma and Erich are on their way to Calgary for five days and on Feb. 22 I will join them all when we meet up in Kelowna for three fun days at Silver Star. The kids then return home and after that, only the snow gods know where Peter and I will be. Other than B.C. the plan includes resorts in Idaho (who knew?), Utah, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana.
Ski y'all later!
